An established storefront separating into the parts worth keeping and the parts to rebuild, then resolving into a clearer system.

Storefront Recast for established Shopify stores

Keep the store, catalogue and operating knowledge already earned. Rework the structure, selling journey and theme where they are holding the business back.

The service

A rebuild that starts with what the store has already taught you

Existing trading evidence is more useful than a blank-page brief.

Storefront Recast is for a Shopify store that works well enough to have history, customers and operating habits, but not well enough to support the next stage of the business.

The work starts by separating what has earned its place from what has merely accumulated. Catalogue rules, high-intent routes, useful integrations and working operational habits stay. Theme constraints, duplicated journeys, brittle sections and unclear merchandising are corrected or replaced.

This is a service available now. It does not depend on an unreleased proprietary theme: the right implementation may be a restrained adaptation of a strong existing theme, a rebuild of the current one, or a more custom theme architecture where the evidence supports it.

The name describes the method. The store is recast around the way the business now trades rather than discarded and rebuilt around a generic demo catalogue.

Four moves

Keep, correct, replace and hand over

Every part of the store is given one of four explicit treatments.

Swipe the method

Keep

Protect what already works

Routes, content, catalogue logic, integrations and customer habits that still do their job are recorded and carried forward deliberately.

  • Traffic and conversion baselines
  • High-value routes and search equity
  • Operational dependencies and app behaviour

Correct

Fix the structure beneath the design

Navigation, collections, filtering, templates and merchandising are corrected before new visual treatment makes the old structure harder to see.

  • Catalogue and collection architecture
  • Mobile buying journeys
  • Template and section responsibilities

Replace

Rebuild only the parts that constrain growth

The theme layer is replaced where its architecture, performance or editing model blocks the work the business needs to do.

  • Conversion-led template design
  • Maintainable sections and settings
  • Performance and technical SEO baseline

Hand over

Leave the team with a store they can run

Launch, rollback, training and documentation are part of delivery rather than an informal week at the end.

  • Recorded launch and rollback plan
  • Team training against real tasks
  • Short post-launch defect period
Boundary

What Recast changes, and what remains a separate project

A named offer needs a visible edge, not a flexible list of agency capabilities.

Storefront Recast scope boundary
AreaInside a RecastSeparate when required
DiagnosisCurrent storefront, analytics, catalogue, theme and editing modelBrand strategy, customer research programme or full data-platform audit
ArchitectureNavigation, collections, templates, sections and core buying journeysA complete catalogue data remediation or product-content production programme
ThemeDesign and implementation of the agreed storefront template setA public theme product, headless storefront or unrelated custom application
IntegrationsReconnection and validation of agreed existing storefront dependenciesNew ERP, warehouse, subscription or middleware implementations
LaunchTheme publication, validation, rollback plan, training and handoverOngoing optimisation capacity after the agreed post-launch period

If data must move from another commerce platform, the work is a Shopify migration rather than a Storefront Recast.

Good fit

When the offer earns its name

Recast is for an established store with useful history and structural constraints.

The engagement is a strong fit when several of these are true at the same time.

  • The store trades, but the theme was built for an earlier catalogue or business model
  • Navigation and collections have accumulated until shoppers meet several routes to the same products
  • The internal team needs development help for ordinary merchandising and campaign changes
  • Mobile buying journeys feel adapted from desktop rather than designed for the traffic the store receives
  • Useful search equity, content, integrations and customer habits make a clean-sheet rebuild unnecessarily risky
  • The business can name what the next version must make easier to sell, operate or change

A new store with no trading history needs a launch build. A sound store with one bounded blockage usually needs a smaller project. Recast sits between those two.

Recast delivery

From-price or scoped after diagnosis

One bounded piece

Project sprint

£1,500$2,000

One bounded improvement: landing pages, a template rebuild, an analytics implementation, or a build-readiness review credited against a larger project.

  • One defined outcome, agreed before work starts
  • Fixed price and a fixed finish line
  • Credited against a larger project where it leads to one

Fixed price

Migration and build

Shopify launch

From £5,000From $6,500

Moving to Shopify and building the store in one project, so the data and the storefront land together rather than in two disconnected pieces of work.

  • Store build, configuration and templates
  • Managed data migration within stated limits
  • Redirects, analytics and technical SEO baseline
  • Launch, training and short post-launch support

Starting price

Plus, B2B, multi-market

Advanced Shopify

From £8,000From $10,500

Shopify Plus, B2B, multi-market, multi-language, custom integrations or headless work. These configurations are sized after discovery, not instant-priced.

  • Trade accounts, price lists and B2B rules
  • Multi-market and multi-language configuration
  • ERP, PIM, WMS and accounting integrations
  • Headless or custom storefront work where justified

Starting price · scoped after discovery

The starting point depends on the number of distinct templates, catalogue restructuring, integrations and the amount of theme architecture that must be replaced rather than retained.

Questions

Asked before this work is agreed

Is Recast a Shopify theme?

Not yet. Storefront Recast is the service: diagnosis, architecture, design, implementation, launch and handover. Recast is also reserved as the name for a future reusable UltraLabs Shopify theme, but this engagement does not require or promise that unreleased product.

Do we have to replace our current theme?

No. The current theme is reviewed before that decision is made. If its architecture can support the required templates and editing model, retaining and correcting it is cheaper and less risky than replacing it.

Is this the same as moving to Shopify?

No. Recast is for a store already on Shopify. Moving products, customers, orders and URLs from another platform is a migration with a separate data and cutover scope.

Can Recast continue into monthly support?

Yes, if there is a real backlog worth funding. It is optional and quoted separately. Every Recast still ends with documentation and handover whether or not ongoing support follows.

Send the store and what it has outgrown.

The current theme, the catalogue and the changes your team struggles to make are enough to tell whether this is a Recast or a smaller project.
